Tools

Nearly every home today has appliances that massively reduce the time spent on mundane housework. However, just like any piece of technology, some of them will suffer wear and tear over time, hence requiring repair every now and then. Sometimes we think we are ready for these repairs, but when you reach into the toolbox, the only thing you find there is a screwdriver and a few rusty nails. But that can be enough for the repair job ahead. However, if you are seriously looking to build a toolbox worthy of its name there are a few more tools you should consider throwing in there for appliance repairs.

A Multimeter

A multimeter is useful for measuring the electrical values and is crucial for diagnosing electrical problems. They work by measuring resistance in your household appliances.  Resistance refers to the indications of a working electrical circuit. The different kinds of resistance including infinity resistance, really high resistance, really low resistance all serve to help you recognize if there is a faulty circuit.  You can achieve this by getting yourself an analog multimeter.

Wrench

A wrench is one of the most commonly used tools in appliance repairs.  They come in a number of different sets and sizes. As such you might want to consider them all before you settle on one. Wrenches work by holding and turning bolts, plugs, nuts and other parts. They come in five different types, including the socket wrench, the box wrench, the open-end wrench, adjustable wrench, and the hex wrench.  The socket wrench is useful for slipping over bolt heads, which is useful in giving you more leverage to loosen or tighten nuts and bolts. Box wrenches are great for heavy-duty jobs, while open-end wrenches are more useful in medium-duty situations where you can’t fit the other types of wrenches. On the other hand, hex wrenches also known as Allen wrenches are great for removing things like fan blades and other parts held together by hex screws. Adjustable wrenches are excellent for light-duty jobs because they can work odd-shaped nuts and bolts and can be adjusted to fit any size within its maximum capacity.

Pliers

With pliers, you have quite a few options to choose from.  Pliers are useful for cutting and holding different materials. The channel lock pliers are great for washers and dryers, and they loosen the water hose fittings on them. Another pliers type is the needle nose pliers that are great for gripping small pieces and cutting wires because they are bendable. The diagonal cutting pliers will also come in handy when working with electrical wires to help you cut the cords and ropes. Finally, we have the pump pliers which have adjustable jaws that can be moved in several positions and are very handy for general jobs.

Work Gloves

Safety is of the utmost importance when handling repairs, and as such, it should come as no surprise that you will need work gloves. This is because appliances could have surfaces that are hot and even covered with sharp edges.  Other times, when working with tools you could get injured, sustaining some nasty cuts and bruises. To avoid any unwelcome hospital visits, please get some work gloves while doing appliance repairs.
