There is a desperate need for appliance repair technicians throughout the United States and Canada. This desperate need can be beneficial to anyone who has a love for learning and a solid work ethic. An institution such as Fred’s appliance academy can help train you for a very lucrative job in appliance repair. They offer three tracks that give students the skills to work on basic appliance repair, basic laundry repair, and basic refrigerator repair, respectively. Each of these tracks gives you a specific skill set that is highly marketable and in demand.

Different Courses, Different Skills

Fred’s Appliance Repair Academy breaks down its curriculum into three separate categories. Though they differ, the school’s philosophy is the same for each. Hands-on learning, guided by knowledgeable and experienced professionals. Below we will discuss these three categories and the skills that you can learn from each.

Basic Refrigeration Course

The basic refrigeration course is a one week course that teaches students the basic principles behind refrigerator repair. This includes;

  • Ice maker diagnostics and repair
  • Defrost system theory, diagnostics, and repair
  • Sealed system theory, diagnostics, and repair

Refrigeration is a specialized area that takes unique training. This course seeks to give you the ability to repair virtually all brands and models.

Basic Laundry Repair

This course uses the hands-on training method to teach students how to repair electric/gas dryers and front load/top load washers. The instructor will explain the theory and then move straight into the lab for hands-on experience. They identify the most common problems, as well as uncommon problems so that you can go out in the field and use your knowledge to better serve your customers.

Students can expect to dismantle and reassemble washers and dryers in order to acquire an in-depth understanding of how they work.  Basic Appliance RepairBasic appliance repair is a 3-week course that includes both refrigeration and laundry as well as;

  • Microwaves
  • Dishwashers
  • Electric/gas ranges

Students also learn basic electrical theory in order to understand how electricity runs through a home and electronic devices. This is where students learn how to read wiring diagrams, and how to use meters to test the electrical status of an appliance. Repetition is very important when learning appliance repair. Fred’s Appliance Academy gives you a fun safe place to practice until you get it right. The instructors use a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on training so that, by the time you graduate, you will be confident in your ability to fix any issue.
