APPLIANCE SERVICE TECHNICIAN
SUMMARY:
The Service Technician troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs, and performs maintenance of appliances in various homes
and businesses throughout the West Michigan area. This position has a high level of customer contact and interaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and determine action required to repair and perform maintenance on appliances
in customer’s home or business according to standard procedures in an efficient manner.
• Properly disconnect appliances from water supply, gas lines, venting and electrical connections to be able
to provide necessary services.
• Ensure repairs and maintenance meets proper specifications.
• Recommends if the customer should consider replacing their appliance with a new unit instead of
performing costly repairs on an old appliance.
• Provide excellent customer service by communicating in a clear and professional manner with the
customer and co–workers.
• Educate customers on repairs and proper use of equipment and value of products and services provided.
• Respect the customer’s home or business and ensure the home or business is left in a clean and
respectable manner. Dispose of materials and trash properly.
• Adhere to all safety requirements and regulations and use tools and equipment in a safe and proper
manner.
• Maintain company vehicle, supplies and tools, keeping clean, organized, and secure at all times.
• Follow established expectations for communicating with Service team throughout the day regarding
updates and next assignments.
• Work cohesively with internal and external customers ensuring complete satisfaction with time and
service.
• Complete required trainings or certifications as necessary on appliance repair and maintenance.
• Check on appliance warranty status, perform necessary follow–up, and report back to Service Manager on
warranty issues.
• Record and maintain accurate recordkeeping of work orders, repair services performed, mileage, and
expenses.
• Collect accurate payment from customer at time of service.
• Order necessary parts.
• This position travels to and from customer locations by driving the company provided vehicle, adhering
to all local and state driving laws.
• Regular and predictable attendance onsite at our workplace or customer locations is required.
• Ability to meet physical demands and perform the essential job functions within the work environment
identified in this job description.

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Must be 18+ years of age
• Skilled trades experience, not required but preferred
• EPA Refrigeration certification, not required but preferred

• Ability to use electrical and mechanical aptitude to determine causes of appliance error
• Knowledge and experience using basic hand and power tools
• General knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and venting
• General mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Strong attention to detail
• Display positive and friendly attitude and professional demeanor with customers and co–workers
• Strong communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and clearly with customers
• Exercise sound and good judgement skills and solve problems independently or with little guidance
• Proven safety record and continued commitment to safety and quality
• Ability to work as a team and share equal parts of the workload

for extended periods of time and be able to move about in residential and commercial
environments.

hands to move, set up, adjust, assemble, control, test, operate, or feel objects, tools or
controls and reach with hands and arms.
o Constantly communicate and exchange information with team members and must be able to
effectively communicate correct information with vendors and customers.
o Read/comprehend, write, communicate orally, reasoning, and analytical abilities, and mental
flexibility.
o Frequently move (lift, push, pull, and/or carry) objects up to a minimum of 50 pounds.
o Constantly climb, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach above shoulder when working with
equipment, appliances, material loading and unloading, and other related tasks. Ability to
move into tight spaces.
o Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to compare and distinguish
materials and administrative data.
o Hearing ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking level with or without
correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make
discriminations in sound.

TRAVEL:
This position requires daily local travel (generally within one hour from the store) 80% of the time. Ability
to maintain a valid Driver’s License (with good driving record).

PAY:
Pay is dependent on experience – $18.00 to $22.00 per hour. M-F – 7:30am to 5:00pm
