Camden Appliance is a fast-growing, community-focused appliance retailer and service company with two locations in Niles and Edwardsburg, and a developing used-appliance division. We pride ourselves on high-quality service, transparent communication, and an efficient, process-driven workflow. We run a balanced mix of COD, warranty, and courtesy repair calls and strive to deliver reliable, same-day or next-day service whenever possible.
Position Overview
The Appliance Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing major household appliances in customers’ homes or in our service shop. This role combines technical troubleshooting, strong customer-facing communication, efficient paperwork/documentation, and adherence to Camden’s established SOPs and service workflows.
This technician will be a key part of expanding our service capacity, improving turnaround time, and supporting our used-appliance refurbishment program.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic & Repair

Diagnose and repair major appliances, including:
-
Refrigerators, freezers, ice makers

Washers, dryers
-
Dishwashers
-
Ranges, ovens, cooktops, microwaves
-

Perform COD, warranty, and courtesy service calls (approx. 70/25/5 mix).

Accurately assess whether a repair is economical or if replacement is recommended.

Complete high-quality repairs that follow safety and manufacturer guidelines.
Customer Service

Communicate clearly and confidently with customers about:

Diagnosis and recommended repair
-
Upfront repair costs
-
Part orders and follow-up appointments
-

Maintain Camden’s reputation for honesty, professionalism, and friendliness.

Protect customers’ homes (floor protection, clean workspace, etc.).
Parts & Inventory
-
Identify necessary parts and create accurate parts lists for ordering.

Pick up parts from the warehouse or suppliers as needed.
-
Assist in maintaining organized service vehicles and shop inventory.
Used Appliance Refurbishment
-
Inspect, test, and repair incoming used appliances to prepare them for resale.

Work with the Used Appliance Lead to:

Evaluate cost-effectiveness of refurbish vs scrap
-
Ensure appliances are reconditioned to Camden standards
-
Help track turnaround time and quality control
-
Team Collaboration
-
Communicate with office staff on scheduling, follow-ups, and customer issues.

Coordinate with the Delivery Team when appliances need to be moved, swapped, or hauled away.

Participate in ongoing training, service meetings, and process improvements.
Qualifications
Required
-
Experience diagnosing and repairing major household appliances (or strong mechanical/electrical aptitude with willingness to learn).

Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Strong communication skills and customer-service mindset.
-
Ability to lift/move appliances safely with provided equipment.

Comfort using tablets/apps for service documentation.

EPA certification (a plus, not required).
