Three Week Course Questions

Each student/employee has a different set of circumstances that make an average answer hard to determine. We created a Return On Investment calculator to help each potential student determine the total cost for training and how quickly they can start to generate revenue.

In short the class curriculum is structured to take you from the ground up, starting with basic electricity to hands on with major appliances and working your way up to refrigeration systems — including diagnosing, recharging and reclaiming.
Course Skills
The class size is a maximum of 18.
If you are currently employed and have a uniform, we encourage you to wear your uniform. Otherwise, business casual is requested (jeans are fine). You may want to have a long sleeve shirt to protect your arms during various exercises. No shorts or open toe shoes. No hats, hooded jackets, or sagging pants.
Yes, we have over 200 appliance, including electronic controls.
Class starts at 8:00a.m. and runs to 4:30p.m. Monday through Friday.
You need to bring a vaild Photo ID and a Major Credit Card. In addition, you will need the textbook listed and a laptop that has a Windows operating system and Internet Explorer. All tools and test equipment will be loaned to students while attending the course.
– 18 years of age or older no later than the first day of class.

– Please come to class with your EPA Certification. We require that you provide proof of this certificate before learning refrigerant recovery. You may take this test at www.epatest.com. It is open book. You need to obtain a certificate for EPA 608 Type I.

– The textbook, Troubleshooting & Repairing Major Appliances by Eric Kleinert, 3rd Edition (ASIN B009F98D1A) is used in the classroom. It can be purchase on Amazon.

– You must bring a laptop with a Windows operating system, along with Internet Explorer installed.

– Any electrical or mechanical backgrounds will certainly assist you with this course, but not a requirement.

Location and Accommodations

Currently, we do not. But, our tuition is structured so it covers housing if you are coming from out of town. As of 2015, we have had students from nearly every state in the United States, and also several students from Canada, Bermuda, and the Dominican Republic!

Fred’s Flats
Unfortunately, no, if your spouse were to come, you would both need to register and pay for the course.
Tuition at Fred’s Appliance Academy does not include transportation. Anyone needing airport transportation will need to arrange that with the airport limo service. If transportation is needed from the airport to lodging (and from lodging back to the airport), this is the responsibility of the student. Please contact Shima Limo ahead of your trip at 888-546-6288, tell them we sent you.

Our school is licensed by the State of Ohio, but we are not a Title IV school, meaning that we cannot accept traditional financial aid, or Pell grants. We do allow students to make payments, the minimum deposit to hold your spot is $525.00; however, tuition must be paid in full before the class starts.
Yes, you can register for the course if you live in Canada. If, during the registration process, you encounter any problems please contact us at 888-453-7337, ext 9.

Cancellation Policy
Yes, there is a fee for retaking the NASTeC exam at our location. Currently, the fee is $100.00. You will need to contact us for availability to take the exam at our facility during our next scheduled session.
Yes, there is a fee for retaking the ioAST exam at our location. Currently, the fee is $50.00. The exam is also available to be taken online!

Graduation

You can expect an entrance level technician who, if given the chance to ride with a seasoned tech for 6 months to a year, should be able to handle some calls on their own. Some students will excel much faster than others. We recommend students get out in the field immediately to keep what they have learned fresh in their mind.
